TURTLES!!!!
Six of us headed off to the Hawaiian island of Kauai in October of 2016 for my and Josh’s September birthdays. While many times traveling together with other couples we book separate lodging and most of the time for differing periods. This time, however, Jill and I were in charge of finding a place for the six of us to stay. Josh (4), Shannon (3), and Kevin(6) got there a couple days before Jill (2) and me (1) a day before Kelli (you guessed it, 5). We rented a 6 seater SUV at the airport and drove to the 3 bd condo we’d picked out on Air BnB.
Okay, our numbers: with the SUV we had with multiple doors and the person in the back sometime laying down, it was kind of like a circus car when everyone got in and out so we came up with the numbering system. I was 1 because when the numbers were implemented I was driving and i started the counting. The first role-call took some time as the rest of the car figured out what was going on. From then on, “one” “three” “two” “five” “four”… crickets… “anyone else” “oh yeah, six” and then we’d head down the road.
Anyway, we’d rented a condo on the south of Kauai called Poipu AND IT WAS AMAZING. The place was nice for sure and had a great south view of nothing but ocean and a great pool just a floor below, but what made it THE place was what was two floors directly below us… TURTLES ALL DAY EVERY DAY. There was a little cove which had seaweed in it and every morning when i woke up there were turtles and when it got dark there were turtles. There were always at least two but sometimes 7 or 8 at a time. We could see them coming from a ways away and we knew where they were heading; TO US!!!

After dark you could find them a quarter mile down the beach in “downtown” asleep on the beach.
